The history of Cait
600 years ago, most of the Caitian tribes were in the process of forming what is now known as the First Caitian Alliance. This process was started to put an end to many years of war and strife between the different tribes. It was an attempt for the world to know a peace it had never known before, and it almost worked. Would have, in fact, if not for the Northern Tribe, and it’s invasion. These Northerners were a fierce, white-furred group of warriors that felt it was time to subjugate the other tribes. They quickly moved south and began, what became, a long and bloody war.
The war lasted several years, as the Northerners were savage and well-armed, but the Alliance had more resources. The two sides appeared evenly matched, but the Northerners were not deterred by a long war, in fact they seemed to relish it. They pushed themselves to the limit, and the First Caitian Alliance was hard-pressed to hold them off. Just when it seemed the Northerners might gain an advantage, however, a disaster struck. A disease, unknown to the North, began to spread among the invaders. It quickly decimated their numbers and gave the Alliance a decisive advantage.
However, once the death toll began to rise it was the First Caitian Alliance that came to the Northerners rescue. They knew of the illness that had infected the Northerners, and they knew how to treat it. They were almost too late, however. By the time their medicines had stopped the spread of the illness there were only about 1500 survivors. 1500 out of 2 million Northerners were all that survived the epidemic. This brought a quick end to any hostilities. The Northerners, afraid for their own survival, quickly joined, and were accepted, by Caitian society.
Only 2 years later the Alliance began to fracture. The tribes had returned to old concerns and old rivalries. Another war seemed likely, and some might have even wanted it. However, at the right time, a surviving Northern Caitian, name S’rreen, stepped foreword and took command. She led the tribes to form a Second Caitian Alliance, which has endured since that time. She is remembered and revered by most of the current Caitian population.
K’tiess, the early years
K’tiess, which means Tempered Protector in the Cait language, is descended from those white-furred Northern invaders. He was born in December 2358, by the Earth calendar. He has inherited the white-fur of his ancestors, a fact his father is very proud of. His father has often said, “We’ve always had strong genes, and it shows!” when talking about his son. In addition to the fur, his father has also maintained the warrior traditions of his ancestors. He has taught his son about honor, loyalty, and several different combat techniques.
His father, an accomplished Starfleet diplomat, was fascinated by other cultures and spent a lot of time traveling around the Federation. He often took his wife and son with him on these trips and it was during this time that he introduced K’tiess to a Klingon patron, Hundek of House Ko’rok, he had come to know. K’tiess came to enjoy these trips with his dad. He came to respect many diverse cultures, and visited several Federation worlds in his youth. During his late teens, K’tiess spent a year living with Ko’rok. He was treated as any other member of the house, and served the family with distinction in several combat situations, primarily against Gorn, Nausicaan, and Orion raiders. When a conflict arose with a rival house, K’tiess managed to broker a solution that let both houses keep their honor. This caused Hundek to make K’tiess a member of his house.
It was through these experiences that K’tiess found himself drawn to Starfleet, which he saw as a continuation of his father’s work. He initially joined under tactical training, having lived with Klingons and having a talent for security. One particular instructor, however, became very close to K’tiess and noted his natural talents with leadership and diplomacy. This instructor suggested K’tiess move to the command track, then helped him transfer when the time was right.
This was a path K’tiess had never considered before. It wasn’t long before he distinguished himself as both a warrior and a diplomat. He quickly rose through the ranks until he was awarded the honored position of Captain. He has brokered several first-contacts among new species, as well as having fought in several, unavoidable conflicts. He is noted, however, as seeking a peaceful solution first, and relying on violence only when all other options have been tried.
His desire for peaceful contact, and his achievements as captain, caught the attention of the Federation’s Diplomatic Corps. They approached the captain many times, asking for his help with delicate talks or de-escalation of volatile situations. Eventually his successes led them to offer him the rank of Federation Ambassador. However, it wasn’t until they decided to allow him to keep his Starfleet position that he finally accepted these additional duties.
Greetings all, this is the biography I’ve written for my main character, K’tiess. This gives you a bit of Caitian history as well as his individual background. I truly hope you enjoy this snippet of information on who K’tiess is. Most of my information comes from http://www.freewebs.com/usspegasus/races/caitians.htm which is a non-cannon source. That being said, there are no cannon sources of information about the Caitian people or their history.
